Why I Ride
After leaving the military, I was left with many physical issues that made running, walking, and lifting weights very difficult. One of my doctors had suggested either using an elliptical to stay fit or start riding bikes again. I chose the latter. From my very first real adult bike ride, I instantly regain the sensation of freedom that bikes give you when you're a child, that feeling of being able to go wherever your legs, spirit, and sense of adventure will take you! Even better, I was not as restricted as I was by foot or by other types of exercise and mobility. I had my freedom back. The wind rushing through my remaining hair, brushing against my cheeks, the saddle of my new bike gently supporting my bottom as I learn how to maneuver this magnificent new machine. What was the bike that reminded me of the amazing feeling that riding bikes can bring? It was no super bike, barely even a road bike by any definition, it was a $200 Schwinn Valero from Target. Although that steel beast was stolen only a month into our time together, that was more than enough to hook me for good.
