May 7, 2023 - UW-Whitewater, Whitewater, WI
I did not die, excellent bike route, hot & shade-less run, and a pool swim! The pool swim was a welcomed start of my triathlon experience for the year. The weather was actually excellent and would have been good for an open water swim, though the water temp outside would likely still be chilly. I changed in the locker room after the swim, I don't own a tri suit and didn't want to swim in my Gore Bibs. I took the Gore Long Distance Bibs+ for the bike and run, these are great bibs for biking at any distance and work quite well for running! No "diaper" feel for the run, just comfort and great support. The bike course was very nice, scenic-ish, with fast flats and hills that were just challenging enough! The run was mostly through a newer development with very few trees for shade. The only real shade and hills on the run course were at the beginning and the end of the course, which was pretty nice but also harrowing after having just run almost the entire course in direct sunlight. UW-Whitewater has a nice campus and provided a great host to this event. Speaking of host, the team that puts on this and the "Late-bird" series are very nice, accommodating, organized, and understanding! Fantastic event and I would love to do this one again next year!
