ASUS - Vivobook S 14 - 14" OLED Laptop - Copilot+ PC Review

Writer: Mike - Accounting 4 CyclingMike - Accounting 4 Cycling

Amazing battery life, perfect for laptop students, professionals, creatives, home office, and more!

CPU: Intel Core Ultra 5 RAM: 16GB Memory Storage: 512GB SSD Screen: 14” 16:10 1080P OLED Model: q423sa-u5512 Color: Neutral Black YouTube: Unboxing Video!

ASUS has made a serious contender for one of the bets laptops for college students looking for a powerful, lightweight, intelligent laptop that looks great and is durable to boot. The first thing you're met with is a nice presentation when opening the box, a gorgeous metal chassis that offers a firm support for typing, nicely spaced keys with a thoughtful layout and nice keystroke, and the absolutely beautiful OLED screen! Seriously that screen is beautiful! The integration with Copilot+ is also well thought out, offering a nice AI partner and assistant when you'd like to use it but it's not overly in your face when you don't want to use it. I also find Copilot+ to be a useful platform for assisting in research, not to rely on it for ALL research or for completely writing things, but as an assistant to help gather and sort information. Sorry students, you should still write that paper yourself. The teacher/professor likely knows if you wrote it or AI wrote it. Same goes for professionals, AI is a great tool to use for assistance, but there are limits to remember.

Battery life beast & USB ports galore!

Either way, this laptop easily brings all of those tools to your fingertips and with a batter life that I was able to consistently get to 8.5 hours of moderate usage before hitting the 5% auto-shutdown. I had the screen at about 50% brightness and that was about all I adjusted myself, everything else was automatically set by the laptop. The Intel Core Ultra CPU is very nice and efficient, 8 cores/8 threads is a good balance for everyday usage and even some light gaming. It features an excellent trackpad and keyboard, and a 16:10 aspect screen! The two Thunderbolt 4, full size HDMI 2.1, Micro-SD card, and 3.5mm audio ports on the left, and two USB 3.2 Type-A on the right (4 total USB ports!!!) is an amazing mix of I/O for such a small and lightweight laptop! Not to mention the laptop has a single zone full-spectrum RGB backlit keyboard, not quite "gamer-y" full RGB rainbow but you can choose what color suits your creative mood that moment! Also, the 512GB NVMe SSD is a standard m.2 2280 slot and replaceable!

Large battery and motherboard of laptop. Showing the large heat pipes and PCIe NMVe SSD m.2 2280 slot for storage upgrades.
ASUS packed this thin & light laptop with a large battery, upgradeable m.2 2280 SSD storage, and lot of cooling!

Final thoughts & how to buy

I would absolutely recommend this laptop to someone who is looking for a lightweight, yet powerful computer that they can toss in their backpack without worry of cracking any of the plastic casing (because it's all metal!) while going from meeting to meeting or class to class, or wherever your life may take you. This is an excellent machine for creatives, students, and professionals on the go looking for a sharp looking machine that can last the day and has the Copilot+ AI power to help you throughout the day! The price is great compared to its competitors, but if you can find this on sale, this becomes the ultimate choice!
