My Swim Gear
This page showcases the gear I use to attempt not to drown during the swim portion of triathlons and training. I actually don't mind pool swimming and really love living by the water, but I am by no means a competitive swimmer! I have grown quite fond of some of this gear, especially the buoyancy shorts and wetsuit!

The ROKA Maverick wetsuit is the only one I don't have a link for, it can be found on ROKA's website or searching, the other suits on here have my affiliate links in the title and image. The commissions from purchases made from those links allow me to roll more funding towards content creation. Thanks!
ROKA Maverick Wetsuit
This is my first and only wetsuit! It is fast, buoyant, lightweight, and easy to swim in. I bought this at $250, hell of a deal for something this fast and comfortable. I was looking at quite a few other wetsuits at the time but decided on this one as I have ROKA SR-1x cycling glasses and ROKA Barton prescription glasses. They have a good quality of build and a nice selection, team that up with a budget price, and you have the Maverick wetsuit! A great quality and high value wetsuit for beginners and intermediate swimmers on a budget. You won't break any course records just because you're in this thing, but you will feel more comfortable in an open water swim setting. Seriously, I went to the deeper end of the warmup area at Lake Mills, lifted my legs to my chest, and hoped I'd float... I didn't not float. That was a massive confidence booster before the swim leg of that triathlon, which I did horribly at in 2022! I would highly recommend grabbing one, this price point is great for races and training, I still wouldn't recommend using it in a chlorinated pool (I did, it took half a day to rinse it clean).
So you've tried a pool buoy and hate it but still have issues keeping your legs up and hips level? Wait, you still want to kick some, too? Crazy talk! Not really, get yourself a good pair of buoyancy shorts and go wild! These are a good value, great for race day, slimmer fit so you can still wear them under a wetsuit if you want extra confidence that you won't drown, and they look pretty sharp on their own! It'll be your little secret that you're wearing swim shorts that will help you swim, float (a little), contour your curves for efficiency (holds the beer belly), and these are easy to clean, comfortable, and not too hot. I swam in these during the Whitewater Triathlon, which was a pool swim but also a mid-80s sunny day, I was comfortable the whole time. If neoprene was a little tougher I'd say you could likely use these for the whole races, like the opposite of a tri suit. Decent pricing on these, too.
Good, solid swimwear. Definitely not board shorts, but also not as revealing as a banana hammock! Forms well to the body and sticks close, as long as you tie the drawstrings tight enough. Clean coloring but also a wide variety, and as the name would suggest, it is durable and fast! This is what I use primarily for pool training, when I'm not using my buoyancy shorts! If you're looking for beginner swimwear, that isn't just using boardshorts or run shorts with a liner, this is a great option in the crowded field of jammers! At closer to US$35, it's a more palatable investment than jumping straight into buoyancy shorts that are usually around US$100-200.
